Pro-EU: Ben Gummer MP
Despite the MP for Ipswich adding his name (as reported by Ipswich Spy) to a pro-European salvo dispatched a few days before David Cameron’s historical speech, Ben Gummer, ironically, might win a few votes off the back of the PM’s promise to give the British people an In-Out referendum on our membership of the European Union.
That’s if he doesn’t draw attention to his opposing letter and rabidly pro-European views…can he rein himself in?
But then Ben Gummer is a canny political operator as we saw with his anti-immigration leaflet during the 2010 General Election. If needs must, eh Ben?
|Ipswich Council doesn’t even try to hide it’s Socialist ideology
I don’t know if the sight of a snowman sitting in a park without a care in the world is more surreal than the sight of a park bench dedicated to Socialism in Ipswich, England.
This bench is in Alexandra Park and I am told, when the snow isn’t covering it, a very sturdy concrete base has been embedded into the ground as well, no doubt to stop those pesky Tories from removing the bench. The fault in that thinking is Tories believe in law and order whereas Labour are soft on crime.
Anyway, back to the immortalisation of Socialism in Alexandra Park. This is the same park which hosts the annual TUC Tory-bashing event, heavily subsidised by Ipswich Borough Council (as in you and I pay for a bunch of Socialists to sing the Red Flag and drone on about the evil “Tory cuts”).
It was particularly gut-wrenching to learn that it was the former Conservative-led coalition at Grafton House who allowed the multi-acre park to continue to be rented for a measly £250 (less than a meeting room costs to rent in central Ipswich) with security and cleaning-up thrown in for free. Needless to say, Labour have carried on as normal and gone one further by spending tax payers’ money to install a homage to one of the worst and truly evil political systems in the world: Socialism.
You couldn’t make it up.
Ipswich Conservatives have already started their campaign for the elections to Ipswich Borough Council on 3rd May 2012. On Saturday, I received a leaflet through my door with a collection of stories from around Holywells Ward but the main purpose of the literature was to promote the new Conservative candidate, Pam Stewart, who features prominently on the front page.
Pam Stewart is the wife of Cllr Chris Stewart
, who represents Whitton Ward on the Borough Council. I am reliably informed Mrs Stewart is intending to ask a question as a member of the public at a full meeting of Ipswich Borough Council tomorrow, which should be a good indication of the strength she will bring to the Conservative Group if elected.
I intend to upload all leaflets which land on my doormat between now and polling day to encourage political discussion on the Borough Elections from the various political blogs we are lucky to have in Ipswich. I am sure, collectively, our reports and comment will be far ahead of what will be on offer in the
Morning Ipswich Star.
